I have departed successfully from Egypt, and am writing from Amman, having departed Wadi Musa, the village closest to Petra, Greek for rock, and awesome for looking, this morning. There have been a few minor adventures, including happily and unintentionally reuniting with Davide at the hotel I chose in Amman. Stories on that later. For now, I'm going to start uploading photos from Petra - which was incredibly stunning. The images below are the siq and (the long windy passage into Petra featured in Indiana Jones), the 'treasury' (also featured), and photos of that old dude who guarded the grail (not really). We arrived at about 630 AM and had the whole walk to ourselves. I took about 250 photos, so I'm going to load them in chunks. Enjoy!

The siq at night |
So that's an introduction - justice can't really be done here, by any amount of photos, but I'm going to give it a shot. Maybe two more sets? Anyway - while I have a moment, I'll throw in a few tidbits of the past few days. We arrived at Nuweiba, headed straight into the departure station and got our valuable 'Nuweiba' exit stamps (Syria et al won't admit travelers who depart from Taba, assuming that you went through Israel). The boat didn't leave for another 5 hours, but we couldn't leave after getting stamped, so we snacked and played some dominoes and killed the afternoon pleasantly enough. I was traveling with the couple I met in Nuweiba the last time - Thibout and Sarah, and could not ask for better folks. After an uneventful boat ride, we entered Jordan, my fifth country of this trip, and I hopped a cab to Wadi Musa with the Aussies pictured above, who cursed like sailors and were great company as well. We got some food, navigated the Jordanian currency (1 dinar being about 1 euro), had a lovely if costly accommodation, and got our 50 dinar's worth out of Petra the entire next day. I'll pick up from there after I'm settled in Istanbul, which will hopefully be the end of the day tomorrow.
I am eager for some slower time, for some Corinne time, and to be in Turkey, about which I continue to hear wonderful things. Today started a bit rocky, navigating Amman with a bad attitude and sore legs is a recipe for crabbiness - the city is incredibly hilly, more in that later - but after bumping into Davide, the day went swimmingly. We just enjoyed a huge chicken dinner, a tea and sheesha and some conversation with a guy living in Blaine MN of all places. We are thinking about a Hammam tonight, but might just hunker down here - it is cold outside! I'm still really missing my MN winter, and friends and family, but and feeling the love over here as well. Thanks for reading!
